Benefits of Settlement Services
Reduce back-office costs. Why settle daily with all national and regional networks, when you only need to settle with us? Visa Debit Processing Service eliminates the need to track your individual positions with multiple networks across varying network cutoff times, so you can lower administrative expenses.
Save time. Regardless of the number of ATM and POS networks in which you participate, Visa Debit Processing Service provides a single settlement position, minimizing the time your staff spends on the settlement process.
Streamline exception processing. All approved exception items are integrated into your daily settlement, reducing the labor involved in exception item processing.
Enhance information management. A single set of daily settlement reports for all ATM and POS network activity makes it easier to understand and manage your network links. A raw data file is also available for reconciliation to your host system. Timely distribution of our settlement files and reports is the highest priority of our batch processing system.
How Settlement Works
Each day at 8:00 AM Mountain Time, Visa Debit Processing Service determines a single net settlement position1 for all of the transaction-based activity on all of the networks to which you are linked. Following the Federal Reserve Bank schedule, we'll initiate a single wire transfer to or from your financial institution to satisfy your daily settlement obligation. Settlement dollars for non-business days are included in settlement on the next banking business day.
Interchange fees for Visa, Interlink, and Plus transactions (credit and debit) are paid to issuers each day as part of their wire transfer positions. Other interchange fees for ATM and POS networks are collected and paid at the end of each month and are included in your Visa Debit Processing Service invoice.
Key Features
Single net position. Visa Debit Processing Service determines a single net settlement position for your financial institution each day at 8:00 AM Mountain Time and produces all associated data files and reports.
One wire transfer. Visa Debit Processing Service initiates only one wire transfer per day and manages the “float.”
Wire Confirmation Report. Visa Debit Processing Service further simplifies your settlement by faxing an automated Wire Confirmation Report to your financial institution, in addition to the standard reports generated and delivered via batch transmission. This report includes all relevant system totals used to determine the net settlement amount per settlement day, printed in a standard format. One Wire Confirmation Report is completed for each wire origination, based on the banking business day.
Settlement reports. These comprehensive reports facilitate your financial institution’s daily settlement and reconciliation process. Settlement report subtotals are configured to meet your financial institution’s needs and are available by device and/or any grouping of devices (e.g., terminals can be grouped by state, geographic region, or merchant/business partner). You define the breakout totals you need to post to your affiliated DDA and/or general ledger accounts.
Depending on the products Visa processes for you, you may require all or some of these reports to balance to the daily wire:
- Cardholder Activity Report. Reports all transactions performed by your cardholders during a settlement period. Authorizations, clearing items, and completed financial transactions that occurred during the settlement period are reported in chronological order.
- Terminal Activity Report. Lists all transactions performed at your ATMs during a settlement period. Transactions are reported in chronological order for each ATM, with subtotals based on the balancing period for each ATM.
- Processor Settlement Report. Summarizes daily activity reported on the Terminal Activity and the Cardholder Activity Reports for a processor, arranged by service line (account type) and divided into accepted and rejected categories. Also includes settled regional network exception items.
- Transaction Batch Summary Report. Summarizes batches included in the Posting File transmitted to your financial institution, arranged by total transactions (entries), debits, and credits. Data received in the Posting File should match this report.
- VisaNet DCS Miscellaneous Transaction Reports. Details all adjustments, chargebacks, and representments from Visa, Interlink, Plus, and Visa POS Check Service within the business day.
- VisaNet DCS Fee-Related Transaction Report. Provides a detailed listing of all fee collection and funds disbursement messages for Visa and Plus transactions.
- VisaNet Daily Settlement Summary Reports. Summarizes all approved SMS, Interlink, and Plus transactions that determine the net settlement amount. Transactions include fees, charges, and gross interchange values of completed financial transactions. Also contains interchange reimbursement counts and amounts for transactions processed through VisaNet.
- ISA International Transaction by Hour Report. Summarizes International Service Assessment (ISA) fee-eligible transactions performed by your financial institution’s cardholders during the hour reported. Also displays the Optional Issuer International Transaction (OIIT) Fee assessed per transaction.
